Brom, who himself seems to have nothing better to do, invites the annoying brat into his home after acknowledging that Eragon will never shut up so they might as well sit down.

It's also really that awkward, but I hardly need to reassure you all of that, at this point.Įragon says he wants information, and Roran's getting his chisel fixed (and now I'm going to giggle every time I read that phrase) and Eragon's got some free time because lord knows they have nothing to do on the farm, so he thought he'd come bug the old dude.

It's all crammed together like that on the PDF. That is the real honest-to-god non-existant punctuation on that last sentence. He peered at Eragon with deep-set eyes shadowed by a gnarled brown and waited for his reply. Above his white beard, a proud eagle nose hooked over his mouth and dominated his face. A pouch hung from the scuffed leather belt clasped around his waist. He wore a brown hooded robe like a friar. Behind him Brom leaned on a twisted staff embellished with strange carvings. Oh, but we've got some Brom description coming up! Let's take a listen. Brom promptly comes up behind him, demanding to know what he's doing at his house, and scares the piss outta him. I have seen the phrase 'repair his chisel' so many times now that I really want it to actually be extremely bizarre innuendo.Īnyhow, we open this actual chapter with Roran and Eragon arriving and then immediately splitting up, so I hope you didn't want to actually see some interaction with Roran because screw that guy, he isn't the main character! Eragon heads over to Brom's place and knocks. They will both be gone for hours because one of them needs to repair his chisel. Garrow is going to allow both of his farmhands to wander into town, ten miles away, to get a chisel repaired. Restocking supplies? Making a large purchase for use on the farm once winter is over? Oh, friends, you have no idea. It must be something relatively big, right, to require the two of them to go into town. You see, Roran needs to go into Carvahall, and Eragon offers to accompany him on his journey. This is due to a number of reasons, predominantly that my post was eaten twice and I was very much just sick of repeating my point a couple of times, partially because there is literally once sentence about it and I glossed over it myself, but I think also because my mind was trying to mask just how very, very silly this is. At the end of the last chapter, I completely failed to mention that Eragon actually finds an excuse for heading back to Carvahall to talk to Brom.
